After moving to Alaska in 1980, Apocalyse Design founder Dick Flaharty saw a need for better gear to meet the needs of adventurers in Alaska’s extreme environments. He bought an industrial sewing machine and began creating gear in his basement for climbers, skiers, and other wilderness travelers to keep them safe and warm on extended journeys in conditions exceeding 40 degrees below zero. Since he launched Apocalypse Design in 1983, our gear has gained a worldwide reputation for quality, durability, and innovation.
