We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to redesign and modernize our website. It’s been over 12 years since our last major redesign and the original launch of our e-commerce site.

June 28, 2025 is an extra special day! Not only is it the launch date for our new site design, it is also a big birthday for co-owner Tyson Flaharty. Tyson was born two years after his father, Dick Flaharty founded the business. Take a look at our home or about page and do the math, and you’ll see why this is an XL day to celebrate 😉

The new site banner photo comes from the Vatnajökull glacier on one of Tyson’s many adventures. In April, 2025, Tyson completed a 235 mile fat bike traverse of Iceland’s Vatnajökull glacier with partners Miron Golfman, Kurt Refsnider, Justinas Leveika, and Chris Burkard. ( Tyson and Miron also teamed up to become co-champions of the Iditarod Trail Invitational 1000 mile race on fat bikes in 2024).

Many outdoor gear companies use wimpy zippers. Apocalypse Design understand how important it is for you to stay warm, keep the mosquitos out of you tent, and keep your gear safely contained in you pack or duffel bag.  We use heavy duty #5, #8 and #10 YKK plastic zippers in our clothing and gear.  If you have Apocalypse gear or clothing, it comes with a lifetime zipper warranty. We can repair or replace zippers in other manufacturers’ products. We have #10 brass zippers as well as our plastic zippers.

The Granite Tors in the Chena River State Recreation Area is a favorite hiking and climbing destination in interior Alaska. Our Tors Pack and the Tors Deluxe Pack are perfect companions for exploring your favorite trails. The Deluxe Tors backpack shown above is from a product testing and photoshoot outing to the limestone crags of another favorite hiking and rock climbing destination, Grapefruit Rocks.

Made like the Tors pack, the Tors Deluxe has a large main pouch style pocket with a toggle cinch top to adjust the size of the pocket, inside it has a flat pocket along the padded back of the main pocket.  Over the top closure a zippered pouch pocket with buckles that fasten it down to the main bag and it comes with adjustable padded shoulder pads. The deluxe version has 2 zippered pleated pockets on the front and extra cinch cord on the front of the bag.  The bag is made with 1000d Cordura, closed cell foam in the straps and back, and heavy duty webbing and buckles.
